Baba Najmi's full name is Bashir Hussain Najmi, but in the world of literature, he is famous as Baba Najmi. He was born on September 6, 1948, in the village of Ghumiar Pura, Lahore. His father's name was Mangta Khan, and his mother's name was Alam Bibi. Baba Najmi's family originally hailed from the village of Jagdeo Kalan in Amritsar district. After the Partition, his family settled in Ghumiar Pura, where his father started a bicycle repair business. After returning from school, he began assisting his father in this work. Due to financial hardships, he could not continue his studies beyond the tenth grade. Even while studying in school, Baba Najmi developed a passion for composing couplets, and he started keeping company with nearby poets. It was one of these poets, Janab Tahir, who gave him the pen name "Najmi." Similarly, during a school play, the elderly character he portrayed led people to start calling him "Baba Najmi."

Baba Najmi is a poet who deeply loves the Punjabi language. Even while living in the Seraiki-speaking Punjab, he considers all of Punjab as one and speaks of shared matters. He has authored poetry collections such as *Akhan Vich Samundar* (Ocean in the Eyes), *Sochan Vich Jahan* (World in Thoughts), and *Mera Na Insaan* (My Name is Human). In his poems and ghazals, glimpses of the poor's struggles—from their hardships and labor to economic deprivation—can be seen on every topic. Revolutionary voices echo in his writings. Nowadays, he resides in Karachi, and he is also known as the "Poet of the People" because Baba Najmi has vividly etched the sorrows and pains of the common folk through his pen.
