Bachint Kaur is a Punjabi writer, poet, and storyteller. She was born on February 8, 1940, in the village of Bharo, Dhuri. She has completed her education up to M.Phil. level and has so far published around 42 books, which include 15 short story collections, two poetry collections, three novels, one travelogue, one diary, three translated books, and about six children’s books.
In her works, Bachint Kaur has deeply portrayed the struggles of life, social issues, and human emotions. Her poetry collections present the experiences of women, social awareness, linguistic expression, and the subtleties of inner psychology. She goes beyond traditional characters, expressing inner voices, feminine experiences, and identity rooted in language in her writings.
Pagdandian is considered her masterpiece, and it has been translated into Hindi, Urdu, English, Marathi, Yugoslavian, and other languages. Additionally, her book Kiyari was awarded the Best Book Award by the Punjabi Academy, Delhi.
