Darshan Butter was born on October 7, 1954, in the village of Thuhi, Tehsil Nabha, District Patiala, Punjab. He is a prominent Punjabi poet and a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.

His poetry reflects a beautiful confluence of theme, form, and ideology. He is known for introducing innovative ideas and experimental approaches in his work. Some of his major poetry collections include Aurdh De Badal, Salahabi Hawa, Shabd Shehar te Ret, Khadawan, Dard Majithi, Mahan Kambni, and Akkan Di Kavita. His book Mahan Kambni was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012.

Darshan Butter’s works are included in the syllabus of Punjabi University, Patiala. He has been associated with the Nabha Poetry Festival for over 22 years and is a well-known promoter of poetry.

Although he served as a bank manager, he considers poetry his true identity. He inspires students to dedicate themselves to mastering a chosen art form and to strive for excellence in it.
