Gurbhajan Singh Gill was born on May 2, 1953, in Basant Kot village, located in the Dera Baba Nanak tehsil of Gurdaspur district, Punjab. He was born to Sardar Harnam Singh Gill and Tej Kaur. Gurbhajan Singh Gill received his early education at the government school in Basant Kot and completed his matriculation from Dhianpur. He pursued his graduation from GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, and post-graduation from Government College, Ludhiana. He served as a lecturer in Punjabi at various institutions, including Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, and LRM College (now DAV College), Jagraon. From 1983, he worked as a Punjabi editor at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and retired as a senior editor in 2013.
