Gurdev Singh Maan was a renowned Punjabi writer, poet, lyricist, and a prominent figure in literary activities, celebrated among the distinguished literary figures of Punjabi literature. He was born on September 22, 1919, to Mata Basant Kaur and Kartar Singh in Chak No. 286 Dhaul Majra, his maternal village, though his ancestral village was Chak No. 97 in Lyallpur district. From a young age, he began creating literary works, inspired by the guidance of his father.

Gurdev Singh Maan pursued higher education, earning an F.Sc. from Lyallpur Khalsa College and a Bachelor of Sikh Divinity degree from Shaheed Sikh Missionary College, Amritsar. He was a versatile literary figure, contributing significantly to Punjabi literature through works such as *Jatti Desh Punjab Di*, *Maan Sarovar*, *Peeghan*, *Nave Geet*, *Phool Kadhda Phulkari*, *Jatt Varga Yaar*, *Akal Takht Di Vaar*, *Triveni*, *Sool Surahi*, and *Chadhia Sodhan Dharat Lokai*, among others. In addition to poetry, he wrote novels, plays, essays, and humorous satires, enriching Punjabi literature across various genres.

His songs were performed by celebrated artists such as Mohammad Sadiq, Narinder Biba, Surinder Kaur, Asa Singh Mastana, Harcharan Grewal, Kuldeep Manak, and Manmohan Waris. Gurdev Singh Maan’s mastery extended beyond Punjabi literary forms; his works demonstrated expertise in both spiritual and worldly themes.

He received over 100 awards and honors from institutions across India and abroad, including the Shiromani Bideshi Sahitkar Puraskar, recognition from the Central Association of Punjabi Writers of America, World Sikh Sahit (England), and an official honor at the City Hall of Abbotsford. Gurdev Singh Maan passed away on June 14, 2004, in Vancouver.
