A prominent contemporary ghazal poet and children’s literature writer.

Gurdyal Raushan is a prominent Punjabi ghazal poet. He was born on September 1, 1955, in the village of Laroa in Nawanshahr district. His father's name was Sardar Gurdev Singh, and his mother's name was Shrimati Channan Kaur. Gurdyal Raushan received his primary education from the village school and completed his high school studies from Mukandpur (Nawanshahr). After that, he earned a diploma in Art and Craft from Ramgarhia College of Education, Phagwara, and completed his B.A. privately. Despite facing severe economic hardships, through his hard work and dedication, he attained higher education, secured a government job as a teacher, and eventually retired from service.

Gurdyal Raushan had a passion for reading literature from childhood. He began getting his writings published in newspapers and magazines at a young age. Gradually, his interest deepened particularly in ghazal poetry. This fascination led him to the renowned ghazal maestro Baba Bohar Deepak Jaitoi, where he learned and mastered the finer nuances of ghazal composition. It was from his guru that he received his pen name, "Raushan." In the realm of Punjabi literature, he has contributed nearly fifty books, including ghazal collections, poetry anthologies, children's literature, and pantalis, enriching the treasure trove of Punjabi writing. His well-known ghazal collections include *Hunn Tak Da Safar*, *Kinmin*, *Ghungroo*, *Mahfil*, *Man Da Registan*, *Apne Rubaru*, *Zalzale Ton Baad*, *Kala Suraj*, and others. He has been honored three times by the Sahit Trust Dhudike.

He has personally declined to accept any form of government award. He believes that the true honor lies in the genuine love and appreciation received from readers. Currently, he is serving at the Deepak Ghazal School and is also actively involved with the Raushan Ghazal School.
