Habib Jalib (24 March 1928 – 12 March 1993) was a renowned revolutionary poet, born in the village of Miani Afghanan in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. He was known for his protests against state oppression and injustice. Jalib wrote poetry in a simple and direct language that touched the hearts of ordinary people. His first Urdu poetry collection, Barg-e-Gul, was published in 1957, and he went on to publish a total of nine books in Urdu. Although he is primarily known as an Urdu poet, some of his Punjabi works have also been preserved, and they have now been published as a collection under the title Raat Kulehni.
