Hazara Singh Gurdaspuri was a renowned stage poet and writer in Punjabi literature. He was born in 1911 in Nangal Kotli, District Gurdaspur. His father worked as a contractor. Even during his studies, Hazara Singh began participating in revolutionary activities against the British government. At a young age, the British government arrested Hazara Singh Gurdaspuri along with 19 other people, and he was sentenced to thirteen years in prison. In jail, he met Baba Gurmukh Singh, Tika Ram Sukhan, Chaudhary Sher Jang, Parmanand Jhansi, Inderpal, the Babbar Akalis, and other revolutionaries. While staying there, he acquired education in English, Urdu, and Persian.
Although Hazara Singh Gurdaspuri wrote songs and poems, his fame was primarily due to his *vaars* (epic ballads). He created a new style in *vaar* poetry, which made the language of his works precise and idiomatic. In his compositions, he used such language that touches the hearts of common people and influences the public psyche. Hazara Singh Gurdaspuri authored works such as *Takht Hazara*, *Deeva Mud Ke Koi Jagaave*, *Mitti Royi*, *Ikkla Nahin Haan Main*, *Vaaran Di Badshahi*, and *Chitriyaan Ittaan*, among others.
