Inderjeet Hasnpuri was a famous Punjabi lyricist, poet, painter, film producer, writer, and director. He was born on 19 August 1932 AD to mother Bhagwan Kaur and father Jaswant Singh in the village of Akalgarh, Ludhiana district. Inderjeet's full name is Inderjeet Singh Kharal. After his father's death, he began living in the ancestral village of Hasnpur with his mother and three sisters, due to which he came to be known as Hasnpuri. From childhood itself, he had a passion for writing poetry and songs. For his livelihood, he started with painting and also ran a painting shop near Naulakha Cinema in Ludhiana.

Many of Inderjeet Hasnpuri's songs have been sung by Punjab's famous singers/singeresses. Among them, the song sung in the voice of Surinder Kaur, "Lakk Hille Majajan Jandi Da," has taken on the form of a folk song. In addition to these, his poetry books include Ausian, Samen Di Aawaz, Zindagi De Geet, Joban Nawan Nakaar, Roop Tera Rabb Varga, Mere Jihe Koi Jatti Vi Na, Geet Mere Geet, Kithe Gaye Uh Din O Aslam, Rang Khushboo Roshni, and Kirti Kirat Karendian. Apart from these, Inderjeet also wrote children's songs.

Inderjeet Hasnpuri passed away on 8 October 2009 AD in Ludhiana, where due to kidney disease, he bid farewell to this world.
