Dr. Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia was a distinguished Punjabi poet, critic, and writer. He was born on February 5, 1935, to Sardar Kartar Singh Ahluwalia and Bibi Bhagwant Kaur. After completing his early education, he earned an M.A. in English and later obtained a Ph.D. degree. He then passed the Punjab Civil Services examination and served as an administrator in government service. From 1999 to 2002, he held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Punjabi University, Patiala. He played a pivotal role in the conceptualization and establishment of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib. Additionally, he served as the President of the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Chandigarh.
Dr. Ahluwalia had a deep interest in literature from an early age. He made significant contributions to Punjabi and English literature, particularly in poetry and criticism. His notable poetry collections include *Kagaz da Ravan* and *Koor Raja Koor Parja*, where he poignantly highlighted the hollowness of middle-class life. His other works in Punjabi include *Prayogshil Punjabi Kavita*, *Prayogshil Lehar da Sidhantak Pichokar*, *Samkali Punjabi Sahit*, *Punjabi Alochana*, *Adhunik Punjabi Kavita*, and *Puratan Punjabi Kavita*. In English, he authored several books, including *Tradition and Experiment in Punjabi Poetry* and *The Philosophical Background of Punjabi Literature*.
Dr. Ahluwalia received numerous accolades for his contributions to literature. In 1989, he was honored with the Punjab Sahit Akademi (Chandigarh) Award. In 1996, he received the Shiromani Sidhantkar Award from the United States, and in 1997, he was recognized as a Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar by the Language Department, Punjab.
