A distinctive and enlightened poet of modern Punjabi poetry. He gave poetic form to the characters of his village and laid the foundation of a unique genre.

Joga Singh is known as a unique and enlightened poet in modern Punjabi poetry. He was born on 25 November 1942 A.D. in Kahan Ke, district Barnala, in the home of mother Kartar Kaur and father S. Pritam Singh. Joga Singh taught for some time at S.D. College Barnala, then served at Punjabi University and later as Deputy Director in the Punjab School Education Board. He also remained in charge of framing the school syllabus.

Joga Singh enriched Punjabi poetry with the new style of free verse. He was not only a poet but also a capable critic, translator, and editor. Joga Singh's first poetry book was published in 1964 A.D. under the name "Kark Kaleje Mahi". After that, books like "Kachchi Mitti Pakki Mitti", "Naik Pattjhar te Suraj", "Alvida Khushamdeed", "Apni Mitti", "Hun Uh Vakt Nahi Rahe", "Sabuti Alvida", "Khuda Hafiz", etc., were published. In his poetry, the voice of the common man echoes boldly, and he is famous for presenting marginalized people as special individuals. In addition to this, Joga Singh also wrote sketches of the people from his village.

On 20 January 1999 A.D., he passed away.
