Manjit Tiwana is one of the prominent poets in Punjabi literature. She was born in 1947 in Patiala, Punjab. She earned her M.A. in Psychology in 1969 and in English in 1973 from Panjab University, Chandigarh. In 1984, she completed her Ph.D. in Psychology. Additionally, in 1975, she obtained a Diploma in Acting and Direction in Indian Drama from the Indian Drama Academy. She served as a psychology professor in colleges and was the Head of the Psychology Department at the Government College for Women in Chandigarh.

Manjit Tiwana’s first poem was published at the age of 16 in *Nagmani*, a magazine edited by Amrita Pritam. Her first poetry collection, *Ilham*, was published in 1976, followed by other notable works such as *Ilzam*, *Uninda Vartman*, *Tarian Di Jot*, and *Agg De Moti*. Her poetry is characterized by rebellious sentiments, psychological depth, and social analysis. She portrays women and men as integral parts of society while vividly highlighting women’s rebellion. In addition to poetry, she authored *Savitri* (an epic poem) and *Satmanzila Samundar* (a novel). Her work is often associated with the rebellious and feminist streams of Punjabi poetry, depicting women’s inner struggles, anti-societal sentiments, and the complexities of relationships with men, often aligning with a post-feminist perspective.

Manjit Tiwana received the Sahitya Akademi Award for *Uninda Vartman* and was honored with the Shiromani Punjabi Poet Award by the Punjab Language Department. Her contributions have elevated Punjabi poetry to new heights, and her work remains relevant today, deeply connected to feminism and social consciousness.
