Prabhjot Kaur’s complete literary work is a blend of simplicity and aesthetic grace. Alongside original writing, she also produced translations. She was honored with the Padma Shri and the Sahitya Akademi Award.

Prabhjot Kaur was a prominent poetess, short story writer, translator, and author in Punjabi literature. She was born in village Langarwal, Gujrat district, British Punjab, on July 6, 1924 AD. Prabhjot Kaur's father's name was S. Nidhan Singh Sachar and her mother's name was Smt. Rajinder Kaur. Even while studying in school, her inclination towards writing poetry had developed. At the age of 22, Prabhjot Kaur had placed four poetry collections in the lap of the mother tongue. On April 10, 1948 AD, her marriage took place with Narindarpal Singh, who was working in a high position in the Indian Army and was also a famous Punjabi writer. This couple was blessed with daughters Nirupama Kaur and Anupama Kaur. Nirupama Kaur is a poet and writer, and Anupama Kaur is a painter.

Prabhjot Kaur wrote her first poetry collection, Lat Lat Jot Jage, at the age of 19.

After that, she wrote poetry collections such as Do Rang, Pankeru, Pabbi, Khabi, Kunthit, Ishq Sharha Ki Nata, Madhyantar, Palakan Ohle, Azal, Kaafle, etc. In addition, the books she wrote for children are Jhute Maian, Aal Maal Hoia Thaal, Saade Tiuhar, Aman Da Paigambar, Bal Geet Bachian Layi. In short story books, there are Aman De Naam, Zindagi De Kuch Pal, Kinke, etc. Prabhjot Kaur wrote four books of autobiography: Meri Sahitak Svai-Jivani, Kavi Kala Te Mera Anubhav, Jina Vi Ik Ada Hai Part First and Second. Besides these books, she also carried out editing and translation work. In her writings, the subtleties of life, dreams, and social issues have been presented in a satirical style with depth.

In 1966 AD, Prabhjot Kaur was nominated as a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Before that, she had already received the status of State Poet from the Punjab Government. In 1967 AD, the Government of India awarded her the Padma Shri title. Besides these honors, she received honors such as Shiromani Sahitkar, Punjabi Academy Utam Sanman, etc. Prabhjot Kaur also rendered her services as a member of the General Council of Sahitya Akademi and as Convener of the Punjabi Language.

Prabhjot Kaur was primarily a poetess of women's feelings and women's pain. She passed away on November 24, 2016 AD.
