Surinder Geet is a Punjabi diasporic poet. She was born on April 2, 1951, to S. Uttam Singh Dhaliwal and Mata Mukhtiar Kaur. Originally, she hails from the village Bir Raoke in the Moga district of Punjab. After her marriage, she settled in Calgary, Canada. In terms of education, she holds a B.Sc. degree. Surinder Geet retired from the Calgary Municipal Corporation. Alongside this, she has been serving as the President of the Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Calgary, and for many years, she also hosted a literary program titled Lafzan Di Dargah on Radio Spice.

Surinder Geet’s literary journey began alongside her schooling. She wrote her first poem in the fifth grade at the suggestion of her teacher and had it corrected by her. Thus began her journey as a poet. Her published poetry collections include Turi Saan Main Uthon, Sun Ni Jinde, Chand Sitare Mere Vi Han, Moh Diyan Chhallan, Kane Dian Kalamman, Rukh Te Panchhi, and Shabad Sunakkhe, among others. Surinder Geet’s writings are marked by simplicity and subtlety. Her works are neither feminist nor masculine in approach; she writes purely from a humanistic perspective.

According to Surinder Geet, to create good literature, a writer must read extensively and gather knowledge. New words and expressions of thought can only come from reading great authors. From a single good piece of writing, many other good works are born.
