A renowned ghazal poet of West Punjab, who gave Punjabi ghazal a new voice through his thought and reflection.

Tajammul Kalim was a leading poet in Pakistani Punjabi literature. He was born on March 26, 1960, in Tehsil Chunian, District Kasur, Pakistan, to his father, Muhammad Shafi, and mother, Rashid Begum. Tajammul Kalim's parents passed away at a young age, and his property was usurped by relatives. As a result, he was forced to abandon his studies and take up a job in the education department to make ends meet.

Tajammul Kalim enriched Punjabi ghazal with profound emotional depth and intellectual richness. His published books include Barfan Hath Tandoor, Wehde da Rukh, Han di Suli, Cheekda Manzar, and Yar Kalima Chapde Han. His poetry encompasses themes such as love and separation (ishq and judai), Sufism (tasawwuf), social awareness, and class consciousness. By adapting the traditional bahars (metrical patterns) of Urdu ghazal into Punjabi, he illuminated the modern human condition. Tajammul Kalim was renowned for his deeply emotional and socially charged poems, which poignantly touched upon love, parting, fate, the struggles of ordinary people, and societal inequalities.

On May 23, 2025, after a prolonged illness, he passed away in Lahore.
