Tara Singh had established his identity as a famous poet, writer, editor, translator, and journalist in Punjabi literature. He was born on August 15, 1929 AD, in the home of S. Arjan Singh and mother Dhan Kaur, in village Hukran, district Hoshiarpur. He also did carpentry work and journalism, but mainly Tara Singh remained connected with words throughout his life and kept sharing his thoughts with people through literary creations.

Tara Singh contributed to Punjabi literature with poetry collections, two books of short stories, poetic satire, and along with that, he also did translation and editing work. His first poetry collection, Simde Pathar, was published in 1956 AD. The mature poems in this collection of Tara Singh attracted the attention of Punjabi readers and gave him a good recognition. After that, his poetry books Meghle, Asin Tusin, Suraj Da Letter Box, Kahikshan, and Dolday Paani were published. Tara Singh's poetry appears to converse with every color of its time, and even in the painful days of Punjab, he appears to console people's minds through his poetry. His poetry cannot be seen by associating it with any movement; rather, he appears to experiment new things through his poetry.

Apart from poetry, Tara Singh has two important books of short stories: Sargoshiyan and Darpan Bulbuliyan. In addition, Nathbani comes before us in the form of poetic satire. Tara Singh translated seven Urdu one-act plays by Rajinder Singh Bedi under the title Satt Khel, and also translated Begum Aneem Kidwai's Urdu book Azadi Ki Chhao Mein into Punjabi under Azadi Chhan. Looking at Tara Singh's work as an editor, he edited the daily Khalsa Sewak, daily Nawan Hindustan, and weekly Lok Rang.

For Tara Singh's contribution to Punjabi literature, he received the Shiromani Patarkar award from the Language Department Punjab, Shiromani Kavi award from the Delhi Government, and his book Kahikshan received the Sahitya Akademi Award from the Government of India. Tara Singh bid farewell to this world on February 2, 1993 AD.
