Ustad Daman was born on September 3, 1911, at Chowk Moti Das in Lahore. He is recognized as a symbol of Punjabi folk poetry, using his verse to express social and political themes. His real name was Chiragh Din, and both his life and poetry were deeply connected to social justice, religious harmony, and the struggle for independence.Ustad Daman possessed mastery not only over Punjabi but also over Urdu, Hindi, Russian, English, Sanskrit, and Bengali languages. During his lifetime, he did not publish his poetry. He passed away on December 3, 1984, in Lahore. After his death, his admirers compiled and published his work in a book titled Daman De Moti.
