A renowned contemporary poet.

Satnam Singh Wahid is a well-known young Punjabi poet. He was born on 15 January 1987 to S. Leela Singh and Mata Surjit Kaur at his maternal village Nilowal. His native village is Khadial, Tehsil Sunam, District Sangrur. His original name is Satnam Singh, while Wahid is his pen name.

Wahid received his primary education from the Government Primary School of his maternal village, Nilowal, and completed his matriculation from the Government School of his native village, Khadial. After this, he pursued his senior secondary education and B.A. through private study. For higher education, he took admission in Punjabi University, Patiala, where he completed his M.A. and M.Phil. in the Punjabi language.

At present, he is pursuing his Ph.D. from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and along with this, he is also engaged in teaching at S.C.D. Government College, Ludhiana.

Wahid has established his literary identity primarily as a ghazal writer. His poetry collections include Prism Chon Langhda Shehar (A City Passing Through a Prism), Rang Jo Rainbow Ch Nahin (Colors Not Found in the Rainbow), Vartmaan Te Piya Paperweight (A Paperweight on the Present), and his recently published poetry collection Gulmohar Di Chhanve (In the Shade of the Gulmohar).

He represents the new generation in Punjabi literature. In his poetry and ghazals, he presents the inner conflicts of human beings and voices resistance against the political and social restrictions imposed upon society. Along with his creative literary work, Wahid has also been serving as a member of the Sahitya Akademi, Ludhiana (2024–2026).

For his contribution to Punjabi literature, he has been honored by various institutions. Notably, he has received the Ekm Award, Amritsar; Kalam Nav-Pratibha Award; Dr. Randhir Chand Memorial Award; Prof. Kulwant Jagraon Memorial Award; and the Gyani Gurmukh Singh Musafir Award.

Wahid’s poetry touches contemporary ideas and modern sensibilities.
